Langtang Valley

The "Valley of Glaciers" — pristine alpine landscapes, rich Tamang heritage, and accessible high-altitude trekking near Kathmandu.

Langtang Valley, often called the "Valley of Glaciers," lies just 51 km north of Kathmandu — making it the most accessible high-altitude trekking region from the capital. Despite its proximity, it sees far fewer visitors than Everest or Annapurna, offering a more tranquil experience.

The valley is dominated by Langtang Lirung (7,227m) and surrounded by peaks including Dorje Lakpa (6,966m), Langtang Ri (7,205m), and Ganesh Himal (7,422m). The Langtang Glacier and Lirung Glacier are major features.

The region is the homeland of the Tamang people, an ethnic group with Tibetan ancestry who practice Tibetan Buddhism. Ancient monasteries, mani walls, chortens, and prayer flags dot the landscape. Kyanjin Gompa (3,870m) is the valley's main monastery and a cultural highlight.

The 2015 earthquake devastated Langtang Village, but the community has rebuilt with remarkable resilience. Trekking here directly supports their recovery.
