Sherpa Culture Immersion

Live with Sherpa families, participate in daily life, visit monasteries, and learn ancient traditions.

Overview

Spend 3-5 days in a traditional Sherpa home in the Khumbu region. Participate in daily activities — cooking dal bhat, tending yak, spinning prayer wheels. Visit ancient monasteries with resident lamas. Learn about Sherpa Buddhism, mountain worship, and the community's deep connection to Chomolungma (Everest).

Experience Details

This immersive experience goes far beyond a typical village visit. You'll stay with a carefully selected Sherpa family who have hosted guests for generations. Your hosts will share their language (Sherpa/Tibetan), teach you to make momos and butter tea, explain the significance of mani walls and chortens, and take you to their family's sacred sites.

Evening conversations with elders reveal oral histories of early Everest expeditions, the transformation of Khumbu from subsistence farming to mountaineering economy, and the community's vision for the future.
